Apollo and Dionysus in Alice Cooper’s Stage

Alice Cooper is an important band name in music history, as they caught attention to the concerts performed in theatrical style. A diverse comment can be done while watching an Alice Cooper show, such that it is like a tragedy from Ancient Greece. It contains the two energies that form art, or an artistic experience. This essay examines Alice Cooper on stage with references to theories of Friedrich Nietzsche which he wrote in “The Birth of Tragedy”.

Plato, Mimesis, and Balzac’s Frenhofer

There are questions that have been subject of discussions for humanity through ages, such as “What is the purpose of art?”, “Why do we produce or experience it?” or “Can we reach to the truth by art?”. Many philosophers, who were concerned about art, tried to answer such questions in their own thought system. One and the more basic, important of them was definitely Plato from the Ancient Greece. His definition of the concept “mimesis” was one attempt to answer about the place of art in our lives. This answer was so influential that the following philosophy of art was built on Plato’s ideas and many art works gave references to Plato and mimesis. In this short essay, I will summarize Plato’s philosophy on art and explain the mimesis concept, along with analysing one of Balzac’s stories which can be read in Platonian thought as an example.

A Post-Structuralist Analysis to “Varsayalım İsmail”

Varsayalım İsmail was a TV series that was screened in 1986, when the second television channel of TRT was recently started its testing broadcast. Until Varsayalım İsmail, Ferhan Şensoy and his friends from Ortaoyuncular crew were preparing short TV sketches on TRT. As there was less control in the new channel because of testing broadcast, Varsayalım İsmail was suitable for TV2 rather than TV1 [1].

That's all folks.
